         The late General Ranjan Wijeratne was a defacto Commander-in-Chief of Sri Lanka's Armed forces during the reign of Southern terror in the late 80s. He was initially a Lt-Colonel but was posthumously promoted to the rank of General for annihilating JVP terror and restoring the sovereignty of our country. The Gen Ranjan Wijeratne foundation was formed to carry on his vision for the Motherland and her Armed Forces. The foundation thus provides Welfare, publicity and related activity towards the Armed Forces

We liked late General Ranjan Wijeratne because he talked straight and had the image of being a tough administrator but a thorough gentleman. Moreover, he was vehemently opposed to the JVP. As Minister Mahinda Rajapakse pointed out at the 10th anniversary death commemoration,State Minister for Defense Hon Ranjan Wijeratne always made his doings known to the public. He was straightforward and transparent. A first amongst equals, he was a Political and Military COLOSSUS that ensured the safety of our Motherland's contemporary existence and history.The candle blew out long before his legend ever did.
